Grace International Language Centre

Grace is a small private school in the heart of China that offers alternative preparatory education to Chinese students interested in studying abroad.

Grace first opened in response to the alarming suicide rates among Chinese teenagers caused by the intense pressure put on them by both the education system and their families to perform well academically. For many children, the pressure is crushing.

Grace's vision is to remove schoolchildren from the traditional Chinese education system and help them transition into western middle school, high school, and university. It is Grace's desire to provide our students with a loving environment in which to learn, explore and grow as healthy individuals.

History

Grace began as a small, private tutoring service run out of the home of our founders, Misty Guo and James Venosa. The goal was to provide an alternative approach to traditional education in China for students who were interested in studying abroad.

After years of operating from home, both the business and the school community had grown to the point where a proper facility was needed. In 2015 a building suite in downtown Baoji was purchased and renovated, and Grace opened its doors as an official educational institution.

Since then, Grace has prepared and launched over 100 high school and university students into various international institutions world-wide. Grace's programming has also expanded to include private tutoring, weekend day-camps, and international exchange programs in both the summer and winter.

Philosophy

Grace's goal is to provide Chinese schoolchildren with a safe, loving environment in which to grow as individuals, explore their imagination, and discover the world around them in significant, meaningful ways.

Towards this end, Grace's curriculum, community and extra-curricular activities are designed to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and independence. Classes are designed to give students as much practical language experience as possible, while pushing them to expand their analytical capabilities.

Our school community is intentionally small, giving students a place in which to build meaningful relationships. It also enables staff to invest in the lives of students, mentoring and encouraging them in the ways in which each student needs.

In addition to traditional classroom education, Grace strives to give students opportunities to get involved in the larger communities around them, teaching them the importance of community service and volunteering.

In a culture that is consistently starved for meaning and relationship, our heart is not just to expose our students to life, but life to the full.
